    SS Course Offerings for 2022

    Kindergarten Camp! (All Morning, 8:30-11:30) 

    Grade 5K

    This course is for children entering the 5-year-old kindergarten class in the Fall of 2022. Children will learn about the world around them through play, literature, songs, crafts, and hands-on activities.

    1st Grade Readiness (All Morning, 8:30-11:30)  

    Grade 1

    This course will be for children entering 1st grade in the fall of 2022. They will continue their learning and socializing with peers. Hands-on activities, exciting projects, are just a few ways teachers help students enjoy learning and preparing for 1st grade.

    All about it: Reading and Writing (90 mins.)

    Grades 2 and 3

    Do you like to learn about the things that you love? In this nonfiction reading and writing class students will learn how to research non-fiction topics that they are interested in and use graphic organizers to organize their learning. Students will share their research and learn how to communicate their learning by writing and publishing non-fiction books.

    2nd Grade Superstars (90 mins.) 

    Grade 2

    This course will be for children entering 2nd grade in the fall of 2022. Reading, math, crafts, exploring, and so much more are part of the 2nd Grade Superstar Program.

    Fossils and the Earth’s Changes (90 min.)

    Grades 2 and 3

    What do paleontologists do? Students learn about the tools that paleontologists use to find and study fossils, as well as famous paleontologists and their discoveries. Students also begin to use an individual Paleontologist notebook to track their learning.

     

     

    Who’s in Third?  (90 mins.)

    Grade 3

    This course is for children entering 3rd grade in the fall of 2021.  Focus will be on reading, writing, and comprehension. Come get ready for third grade through fun learning games and activities!

    Mystery Math (90 mins.)  

    Grades 3 and 4

    Keep your math skills sharp this summer! Join us for games that are easy to learn and fun to play! You will discover new problem-solving strategies and shortcuts, and personalize your favorite games to take home to enjoy with your friends and family.

    Wide World of Frogs (90 mins.)

    Grades 3 and 4

    Students will form research groups to become experts on various "freaky" frogs--frogs that have unusual adaptations that help them to survive in extreme environments throughout the world. Students will build their reading, research, writing, and collaborative discussion skills through studying their expert frog.

    Fractured Math  (90 mins.)

    Grades 4 and 5

    Students will be learning and demonstrating the skills needed to solve real world problems involving fractions with hands-on situations and scenarios. This is an academic math course that will offer review as well as reinforcement of math skills involving fractions and basic math facts.

    Literacy Lounge  (90 mins.)

    Grades 4, 5, and 6

    Students will be reading in book clubs to discuss and write about their books, making connections with other students that love to read!






    Science of Summer  (90 mins.)  

    Grades 4 and 5

    Students will dive into summer by exploring the science behind phenomena and events related to the summer months. Topics will include thunderstorms, tornadoes, nature observations, fireflies (bioluminescence), sunburn & sunscreen. Class will be inquiry-based, hands on, and a combination of indoor and outdoor activities.

    Sew Creative  (90 min.)

    Grades:  5-8

    Using a collection of children’s books about sewing and quilting, students will learn how sewing presents an opportunity to help others.  As part of this focus, students will create a sewn card which will be sent to the local nursing home residents with a handwritten message.  Students will also meet and listen to a community member who sews Quilts of Valor for veterans.

    Athlete Leaders of Social Change  (90 min.)

    Grades 6 and 7

    Students consider the factors that contribute to the success of professional athletes as leaders of social change. They read about a number of professional athletes who have been leaders of social change, beginning with Jackie Robinson.

    Rewriting History  (90 min.) 

    Grade 7-9

    Are you interested in learning about the history of the Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area? If so, join Mr. Braunschweig on a historical journey. We will gather old photos, research historical members of the community, businesses, events, and places. We also will be interviewing people who lived history and people who helped make the community the way it is.
