    December 2022

Dear School District of Wisconsin Dells Community Members,

As we return from the Thanksgiving break and enter the month of December, it will certainly be a busy time with the beginning of the winter sports season.  There are 15 total school days before the winter recess, and I wish to remind everyone on the virtues of excellent daily attendance habits.  Our principals have set attendance goals, as when our students exhibit good attendance patterns students typically perform better academically than those who do not exhibit regular attendance.  Keep up the good work!

On Monday, December 5, 2022 the board of education will take a few moments to recognize the WDHS soccer team for their first-ever appearance at the WIAA State Tournament.

  • Sunday, November 27, 2022 SDWD Weekly Building Updates

    Hello Parents and Caregivers,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the five-day break and students and staff are refreshed to resume a four-week sprint to the winter recess break.

Please note a couple of details embedded in this week's message:  The first is the district is seeking your input on developing a school calendar for the 2023-24 school year.  A link to the survey is embedded below.  Please note the survey is open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2022.  We thank you in advance for providing your feedback.

     2023-24 Parent Survey

Secondly, WDHS staff has been focusing a great deal of effort with the breakdown of Pre-ACT data as well as ACT data.  Often, we hear students say it doesn't matter how you do on the ACT because schools have dropped the ACT requirement.  In the near future, this is going to change and thus a renewed focus on communicating this to both students and parents.  Our focus is on developing strong skills as identified by over 50 years of research by the ACT group.  Whether a student is attending a post-secondary education or not the focus is to develop these research based skills as identified ACT.  This assessment data reveals what strengths students possess and what specific academic skills need greater attention. If you have a freshman or sophomore student please pay particular interest in the letter forthcoming coming from WDHS staff.

    Have an awesome week everyone!

    Mr. Slack

  • Free breakfast every school day for students

As you know, the Wisconsin Dells Education Foundation is generously supplying free breakfast to ALL students in the SDWD this year, regardless of income/F&R status. This is a great opportunity, and we want more students to take advantage of the generosity of the WDEF. A nutritious school breakfast can fuel your student for success. Children who eat breakfast are more likely to...

    • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
    • Score higher on standardized tests
    • Have better concentration and memory
    • Be more alert and maintain a healthy weight

Every school in our district offers breakfast in the morning, and our Food Service Department takes pride in offering a variety of delicious and nutritious options.

Monetary donations to Happy Kids Network are always welcome. They may be dropped off at any school office or mailed to Happy Kids Network, PO Box 781, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
