Terrance Slack, District Administrator
March 2023
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Please allow me to begin this month’s newsletter article with several calendar reminders. First, the district will observe two early release days in March. These will take place on the 1st and the 15th of the month. Additionally, our K-8 students will see the end of the second trimester of the school year on Friday, March 3, 2023.
Finally, the district will observe a week-long spring break the first week of April. While the break is always well-timed and well-deserved for students and staff, it is a week later this year and will accelerate the pace of the end of the school year. If you wish to look ahead and begin planning for spring break 2024 the district recently published its school calendar for the 2023-24 school year and you can find a link to next year’s 2023-24 school Calendar. You will see most of this calendar emulates the current school calendar in place. Thank you to all families who provided their feedback on the development of this calendar. Finally, one last very important calendar item on the horizon is commencement 2023. This year’s graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. and weather permitting, will take place at the WDHS outdoor athletic stadium. Recently WDHS Principal Mrs. Hoch announced this year’s valedictorian as Carson Beach and the salutatorian as Breanna Hartley. Congratulations to both of these well deserving students! Each will provide a short commencement address and we look forward to this prestigious commencement ceremony! ...READ MORE

Sunday, March 26, 2023 SDWD Weekly Building Updates
Greetings SDWD Families,
Mr. Slack is currently out of the office and will return Friday, March 31. On his behalf, I would like to encourage students and staff to have a productive week before the district closes for Spring Break at the end of the school day on Friday. When classes resume on April 10, there will be 35 days of school before the WDHS Class of 2023 receives their diplomas and one week later (barring any freak snowstorms like the one that clobbered the eastern half of the state over the weekend), the remainder of the student body will wrap up the 2022-23 school year. I would encourage all to try and make the most of those days and look at them as opportunities rather than merely as a countdown. Easier said than done, I suppose, as the end draws nearer, but try to use the break as a springboard to a strong finish.
The next Weekly Building Update will be sent on April 9.
Have a wonderful week and break,
Hugh Gaston, Director of Digital Learning and Technology

Free breakfast every school day for students
As you know, the Wisconsin Dells Education Foundation is generously supplying free breakfast to ALL students in the SDWD this year, regardless of income/F&R status. This is a great opportunity, and we want more students to take advantage of the generosity of the WDEF. A nutritious school breakfast can fuel your student for success. Children who eat breakfast are more likely to...
- Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
- Score higher on standardized tests
- Have better concentration and memory
- Be more alert and maintain a healthy weight
Every school in our district offers breakfast in the morning, and our Food Service Department takes pride in offering a variety of delicious and nutritious options.

School supplies provided for elementary students
All elementary students, 4K-5th grade, will be given brand new school supplies on their first day of school this year. We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with Happy Kids Network once again to lessen the burden of the start of school for families. Students will only need to bring their own gym shoes and a backpack.
Happy Kids Network is a local non-profit organization that supports the children and families of the School District of Wisconsin Dells.
Monetary donations to Happy Kids Network are always welcome. They may be dropped off at any school office or mailed to Happy Kids Network, PO Box 781, Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965.
