    Attention SDWD Families,

I wish to be as timely as possible in relaying and interpreting Governor Evers' "Safer at Home Order" issued just a short while ago.  As it states, the order is now extended until Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

What this means for schools and in particular for the School District of Wisconsin Dells, its employees, students, and the parents of the students we serve is the news we will not be returning for traditional instruction for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.  Listed below is the language from the updated order issued earlier today.  "Schools.  Public and private K-12 schools shall remain closed for pupil instruction and extracurricular activities for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  Schools may continue to facilitate distance learning or virtual learning.  Schools may continue to be used for Essential Government Functions and food distribution."

This means at this point in time the District will continue to educate its 1,700+ students with online/remote learning opportunities.  Additionally, it will continue to distribute meals to students within the District and add on to the 7,000+ meals it had served as of Wednesday, April 15, 2020.  Thank you Food Service Department!  Certainly there are many more details forthcoming, including getting more accustomed to increasing our proficiency with online/remote learning opportunities.

Stay tuned for a separate communication regarding these matters, including the details of a forthcoming pass/incomplete/fail grading system as well as a waiver of some graduation requirements for members of the Class of 2020.  While this pandemic has created many hardships for us individually, I really feel for our future Class of 2020 graduates.  They have accomplished so much during their time with us and know we remain committed to a formal graduation ceremony, but any formal date is just not available yet at this time.  We really want to celebrate their accomplishments and bring formal closure to their SDWD educational career as well as close out the end of an era with a proper send-off to the current WDHS before we begin next year in a new, modern state-of-the-art facility.

In closing, I thank everyone for their efforts during this unprecedented closure while you have been learning from home.  Know that if you need help or support, our staff is ready and available to assist!  I ask that you continue to live our district's mission of Connect, Inspire, Achieve, Everyone, Every day!  It means a great deal to everyone involved in our organization and has fueled our #WeAreWD success!

Take care, be safe and stay well!

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Slack
